JOB TITLE: Head Swim Coach for the 2025/2026 Season
LOCATION: Kuna High School
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
CALENDAR: To be determined by calendar year
SALARY: Per supplemental contract salary schedule
JOB SUMMARY:
To safely and positively motivate and develop skills, attitudes, and habits that will guide each athlete toward success, personal growth, and good character. To provide examples of fair play, team building, and respect. Provide leadership and motivation to excel.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Idaho Teaching Certification, American Sport Education Program Certification, or National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association Certification strongly preferred
- Certification or willingness to obtain certification in first aid and CPR required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of competitive swimming, sports training, conditioning, injury prevention, kinesiology, management, and the rules of the Idaho High School Activities Association Handbook
- Related experience in the sport
- Ability to foster and sustain students' interest in the activity and promote skill development
- Possess good organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work well with students, parents, and colleagues
- Demonstrate aptitude for working with adolescents
- Works well with students, staff, and the public
- Maintain confidentiality of staff and students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support and adhere to the policies and rules established by the IHSAA, the SIC, the Kuna School District and Kuna High School
- Attend all tryouts, practice meetings, and in-school events, and supervise students during related field trips and other out-of-school functions. Attend out-of-school meetings, supervise fundraisers, and help students prepare for competitions.
- Collect and keep on file all required medical and parent consent forms
- Accountable for issuing, collecting, and inventorying, all equipment and uniforms
- Plan and organize safe and effective practices that emphasize team unity and the development of basic fundamentals and skill of the activity
- Establish consistent and fair team guidelines for all student athletes
- Work cooperatively with the activity director in setting up facilities and securing personnel for game and meet management
- Conduct postseason assessment of assistant coaches
- Prepare budget requests and equipment recommendations for the activity director
- Establish appropriate guidelines and supervise players behavior and conduct in the locker rooms and on school buses.
- Promote interest and enthusiasm for the activity program to students, staff, and parents
- Exhibit respect and dignity for all students and athletes at all times
- Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education as well as to the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Code of Ethics
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
- Will have the ability to perform the assigned coaching task and be able to promote a positive athletic environment for both students and parents. Prior coaching experience of a high school swim team. Knowledge and experience of swimming, strong communication and organization skills required. Ability to plan and implement a program of developmental activities and competitive performances for a high school swim program. Ability to clearly express needs and ideals, obtain the commitment of others, and anticipate and lead the critical details necessary for a successful program. Ability and willingness to communicate and work with principals and other school activity sponsors. Ability to involve and communicate with parents and participants.
