JOB TITLE: Throws Coach for Track & Field
LOCATION: Kuna High School
REPORTS TO: Principal and Athletic Director
HOURS: Part Time
SALARY: Stipend to be determined
JOB SUMMARY:
The throws coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in the organization and implementation of a successful program. More specifically, this coach will work closely with athletes to develop their skills in throwing events, including shot put, discus, javelin, and other events as needed. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the sport, strong coaching abilities, and the ability to mentor student-athletes in a positive, supportive environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience coaching or participating in the throwing events (shot put, discus, javelin).
- Strong knowledge of the fundamentals and techniques of the throwing events.
- Ability to work with high school-aged athletes and communicate effectively.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire athletes to reach their full potential.
- Complete a First Aid/CPR certification.
- Complete Concussion Course
- A passion for athletics and an understanding of the student-athlete experience.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in coordinating development and promotion of the program
- Promotes all athletes to participate in sports and activities throughout the school year.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions
- Adjust coaching techniques, based on the ability of athletes
- Assist in arranging and conducting program-specific activities, such as summer training, skills-improvement sessions, and pre-season try-outs
- Instruct athletes in rules, game strategies, and performance principles
- Provide training, encouragement, and motivation to prepare athletes for competition
- Assist in generating additional funds for support of the program through approved fundraisers
- Professionally communicate with the media
- Carefully operate under state/league/school rules and regulations.
- Understand rules and regulations and is in compliance with High school activities (See link:http://www.idhsaa.org/rulesregs/home.asp)
- Discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Deal with students, parents, staff, and others in a positive, encouraging manner.
- Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
