LOCATION: Multiple Locations
REPORTS TO: Principal or Building Administrator
CALENDAR: 185 days a year
SALARY: PP1: $13.33 - 15.93/hr DOE +

JOB SUMMARY:
Assists the Special Education Teacher in achieving the goals and objectives as stated on each child's current Individual Education Plan (IEP) through individual, small group, or whole group instruction both in a Resource Room setting and in the regular classroom when appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Educational Requirements
- Two years of college or 32 credits or
- Associates degree or
- Meet or exceed cut score on Praxis Exam for the Para Pro Assessment
- Past successful experience working with school age children
- May need to be able to lift 50 pounds
- Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below
- Positive public relations skills
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Become familiar with basic special education knowledge with emphasis on due process procedures and confidentiality of information and records.
- Display a positive attitude toward school/special education programs and show respect for leadership and programming decisions made by supervisors.
- Provide individualized instructional activities using materials and sequences selected/prescribed by the special education teacher and other related services personnel.
- Maintain all clerical information required of the program in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
- Help to maintain a positive classroom environment through performance of duties such as making attractive bulletin boards, developing interesting instructional materials, using equipment and materials appropriately, keeping the room and work areas clean and orderly, etc.
- Supervise and manage student behavior in a variety of school settings. Discipline students in a manner consistent with school and teacher policies.
- Use appropriate reinforcement strategies in a manner indicating empathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Meet the personal needs of handicapped children including toileting, feeding, locomotion, and health needs and be physically emotionally able to handle the rigorous demands of working with all handicapping conditions.
- Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Participate in special education staff meetings, appropriate in-service training, and other professional development activities as requested.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help for and substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the special education teacher.
- Provide for the personal care needs of students; feeding, dressing, toileting, etc.
- Work with students, parents, staff, and others in a positive, encouraging manner.
- Know and follow district policy and chain of command.
- Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
- Any other duties as assigned.
